Electronic Manuscript Tracking
AIP's web-based tracking system—AMSIS (Author Manuscript Status Inquiry System)—provides your authors and editorial staff with fast and easy online access to pertinent data about articles being published or produced by AIP. The AMSIS site is completely secure. It allows only authorized individuals to monitor the production status of individual articles, as well as complete issues, from manuscript receipt to final delivery.
Production X-Press™
An optional service and broader tracking tool, Production X-Press™ is a hands-on solution developed for Editors and publishers interested in having more control over the progress of their issues and individual manuscripts. Publishers have immediate access to proofs and corrections to and from their authors, and the ability to communicate with authors via email. It provides access to the original proof, author corrections, and all subsequent proofs and corrections between AIP and the publisher. It also allows the publisher to electronically send proof corrections to AIP.
Electronic Proofs
To expedite the production process, page proofs are sent to authors as PDFs. This enables authors to download and print their article pages for review. They may then annotate and mail, fax, or email their requested changes. Our customers can be given a "window" into this author proof site for ease in tracking author activity.
Article-at-a-Time (e-First) Publishing
AIP's production process can easily facilitate the online publication of your journal articles on an article-at-a-time (or e-First) basis rather than on an issue basis, enabling your content to reach your subscribers long before their print issue arrives. AIP supports a variety of pagination schemes that facilitate citation of published articles at a much earlier date.

End-to-End XML Production Process
AIP's end-to-end XML process facilitates re-use and re-purposing, archival preservation, and automation of many content validation processes. This ensures your content will be of higher quality at lower costs, and easily repurposed to create new revenue streams beyond traditional subscription models.
Copyediting
Working in compliance with your specifications, or AIP house style, our skilled copyeditors enhance the readability and rendering of your journal's content. Articles are edited for style, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and verification of figures, tables, and reference citations. To facilitate intra- and inter-article linking online, our copyeditors provide all the necessary markup, flagging discrepancies for the author to check.
Production Management
In addition to their comprehensive oversight of the production process and schedules, our dedicated production teams ensure that clear and ongoing communications occur with your authors and editorial staff. The team assigned to your publication can offer creative solutions for dealing with matters such as special issues, supplements, new journal design, special meeting materials, and more.
Workflow Management System
Our workflow management system is a web-based tool that provides queue management for all manuscripts in production. It integrates tightly with the article's individual production schedule and drives the production of each article throughout the process. This system drives our paperless workflow and is the basis of many of the efficiencies that are built into our production process.
Composition
Working from either author-supplied hard copy or electronic files, AIP will typeset and compose fully digital pages according to your specifications. Our experienced staff specializes in producing fully digital pages that incorporate complex equations, graphics, and tables. End deliverables include PostScript, PDF, XML, HTML, full text, headers and/or references, and both high and low resolution graphic files. Creation and insertion of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) that create persistent article URLs are also part of AIP's composition process.
Graphics Production
Staff expertise and state-of-the-art equipment ensure excellent quality reproduction of all types of illustrations. Authors' electronic files are accepted; or original artwork, photos, or transparencies can be scanned.
Quality Assurance
Our production staff is acutely aware of the importance of meeting stringent requirements for accuracy. They bring a sharp attention to detail to each and every product: journal page content and layout; image reproduction; CD-ROM completeness and functionality; and compliance with online publishing specifications—including the integrity of reference linking. Our proprietary reference resolution program validates each reference against our AIP abstract database as well as CrossRef.
